Comparing alternative senior sets
Precise M5 Men's Senior All Graphite Set
The Precise M5 set keeps the senior flex graphite shafts but shifts focus to lightweight forgiveness. It lacks the driver and fairway wood of the Hogan set, offering a more streamlined package. You get oversized heads similar to the Hogan irons, which help with consistency. This set suits players who want ease of swing without managing a full bag. It is a solid choice if you prefer simplicity over the complete driver-to-putter configuration found in the Ben Hogan option.
Cobra Baffler Hybrid Iron Set Senior
The Cobra Baffler set replaces traditional long irons with hybrid-iron hybrids, offering a different approach to forgiveness. Like the Hogan set, it uses senior flex graphite shafts for easier launch. However, it focuses on the iron and hybrid range rather than including a driver and wood. This configuration helps golfers who struggle with long iron accuracy. If you value precision in the mid-to-short game over tee-off distance, this hybrid-focused design provides a practical alternative to the full set structure of the Ben Hogan FW-817.
Majek K6 Senior Iron Set 8-Piece
The Majek K6 set targets seniors needing forgiveness in their iron play specifically. It uses senior flex graphite shafts, matching the Hogan set’s flexibility. Unlike the Hogan set, which includes a driver and woods, this is an iron-only set. This makes it ideal for players who already have other clubs or want to upgrade only their mid-to-short game. The oversized heads provide similar control benefits. If you do not need a complete bag, this focused iron solution offers a cost-effective way to improve accuracy.
Forgan F35 Full Hybrid Iron Set
The Forgan F35 set prioritizes maximum forgiveness through a full hybrid design. It uses senior flex graphite shafts, consistent with the Hogan set. The key difference is the absence of traditional long irons; every club from 3-PW is a hybrid. This eliminates shanks and fats, offering ease of use that rivals the Hogan’s oversized irons. It is an excellent choice for seniors seeking to simplify their game. If you prefer the consistency of hybrids over the mixed bag of driver, wood, and iron found in the Ben Hogan set, this is a strong option.
TaylorMade Qi Max Irons Senior Graphite
The TaylorMade Qi Max irons focus on straight distance and vibration dampening. They feature senior flex graphite shafts, similar to the Hogan set. This is an iron-only set, lacking the driver and woods included with Ben Hogan. The optimized head design aims for higher launch and straighter shots. It suits seniors who want to upgrade their iron performance without replacing their entire bag. If you already have a driver you like and want better forgiveness in the mid-to-short game, these irons offer a targeted improvement over the full Hogan set.
Precise A9 Iron Set Senior A Flex
The Precise A9 set provides lightweight irons with senior flex graphite shafts. Like the Hogan set, it aims for distance and comfort. However, it is an iron-only set, excluding the driver, woods, and putter. This makes it suitable for players who want to replace only their irons. The lightweight design helps with swing speed and launch. If you are looking to improve your mid-to-short game without buying a complete new set, this iron-focused alternative offers a practical upgrade path compared to the comprehensive Ben Hogan FW-817 package.
