Orlimar Intercept vs ATS Junior Comparison
Target Audience
The Orlimar ATS Junior Right Handed set is specifically designed for boys ages 9 to 12, with a stated height range of 4'-4" to 5'-0". This focus ensures the equipment matches the physical development of younger players. In contrast, the Orlimar Intercept Graphite Iron Set is built for men. It features standard adult sizing and a seven-piece configuration that includes irons from #5 through GW. The ATS Junior targets skill development in children, while the Intercept targets game improvement for adult male golfers seeking distance and accuracy. Each set serves a completely different demographic based on age and physical stature.
Shaft Material
Both sets utilize lightweight shaft materials to help generate swing speed, but they differ in composition. The Orlimar ATS Junior uses flexible composite shafts, which are noted for being lightweight and easy to swing for younger users. The Orlimar Intercept Graphite Iron Set uses Orlimar 60 graphite shafts with a regular flex. Graphite is standard for men's game-improvement sets to reduce vibration and increase distance. While both materials aim to aid swing mechanics, the composite shafts in the ATS Junior are tailored for junior strength, whereas the graphite in the Intercept is optimized for adult performance and feel.
Set Configuration
The club count and types vary significantly between the two options. The Orlimar Intercept Graphite Iron Set is a comprehensive seven-piece iron set containing #5, 6, 7, 8, 9, PW, and GW clubs. It is designed for serious play with progressive length and offset designs. The Orlimar ATS Junior Right Handed set is a five-club package that includes a driver, #5 hybrid, 7-iron, wedge, and a mallet putter. The ATS also comes with headcovers and a bag. The Intercept offers a complete iron progression for men, while the ATS provides a mixed bag of clubs suitable for junior introduction to the game.
Included Bag
The Orlimar ATS Junior Right Handed set comes with a durable junior golf bag that features a stand, a 5-way divider top, and a padded carry strap. It also includes multiple zippered pockets for storage, making it a fully equipped solution for practice and play. The product data for the Orlimar Intercept Graphite Iron Set does not mention an included bag. Buyers looking for a complete package with storage and transport will find the ATS Junior more ready-to-use out of the box. The Intercept set focuses solely on the clubs themselves.
Shaft Flex
The Orlimar Intercept Graphite Iron Set explicitly offers shaft flex options, including Regular and Stiff, allowing adult men to choose based on their swing speed. The Orlimar ATS Junior Right Handed set uses flexible composite shafts but does not list specific flex ratings like Regular or Stiff. This is typical for junior clubs, where the composite material provides inherent flexibility suited for younger players. For adult buyers, the ability to select a specific flex in the Intercept set is a critical spec. The ATS Junior relies on its composite construction rather than graded flex options.
Which Orlimar Set Fits Your Needs
Parent of a young boy
This set targets boys aged 9 to 12. The composite shafts are lightweight and flexible, helping younger players swing with better control. Club lengths like the 37-inch driver match the 4'-4" to 5'-0" height range. This setup builds confidence and technique for growing players.
Adult male golfer
Designed for men, this 7-piece graphite iron set offers standard lengths. The regular flex shafts suit average swing speeds. Features like the undercut cavity and flex face technology increase forgiveness and ball speed. The progressive offset design helps promote straighter shots for improved accuracy.
Beginner looking for forgiveness
The advanced undercut cavity redistributes weight to the perimeter. This increases the MOI for superior accuracy on off-center hits. The ultra-thin face shifts the center of gravity rearward. These specs help beginners launch the ball higher and farther with consistent results.
